Early Years Foundation Stage

Our approach to Early Years is built on our ongoing drive to help children thrive as they navigate today’s world and prepare for tomorrow. We believe that if children feel safe and secure, and are forming strong, positive relationships they will flourish and be ready for the next stage in their lives. Our Curriculum offers a comprehensive and holistic approach to learning, wellbeing and development in their early years. It is specifically designed to help children develop strong emotional resilience and a secure sense of self; inspiring them to explore, investigate and develop a love of learning.

Through the seven areas of learning we provide firsthand experiences that excite and engage all children, building on their own interests and developing their skills and knowledge of the world around them. Children are encouraged to ‘have a go’ and supported to ‘keep on trying’ when they encounter challenges. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum. We recognise that ensuring a strong foundation of early reading is vital to achieving our aim that every child leaves Hilltop a confident, fluent reader.

We work in close partnership with parents and carers to provide the best possible start to school, ensuring that everyone reaches their full potential through consistent communication and support.

By the end of Reception, our intent is to ensure that all children are inquisitive, independent learners who are aspirational, determined and are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to have a smooth transition into Key Stage 1 and beyond.
