• Year 5 Spring 2016

This term our topic is 'The Tudors'. Click on our topic letter to see what we have been learning.

The children have been thoroughly enjoying the topic for this term - The Tudors! They have already re-enacted the Battle of Bosworth where Tudor rule began and have loved learning all about the monarchs. Our English work has linked with our topic and the children have created disgusting Tudor cures for a variety of ailments. Using their imaginations, this piece of work has been one of their best of the year so far! We have sung a Tudor song, drawn Tudor Roses and created Tudor family trees. After finding out all about Henry VIII and his many wives, we learned about the Spanish Armada and how it was defeated by fire ships (and the weather). We ended the term with a Tudor Day where the children all dressed up, an assembly to parents to show off what we had learned and a trip to Penshurst Place too! It is fair to say that this topic really captured everyone's imagination!

Alongside all our wonderful topic work, we have continued with our dance lessons, re-creating the iconic 'Thriller' dance by Michael Jackson. The children have been playing invasion games with a netball theme and have continued to enjoy their recorder lessons, where they are now beginning to sight read music! Our end of term concert was a huge success, once again. We have been learning French and Spanish as well as studying the importance of not trusting everything we read online. A further highlight has been our new link with Thomas Bennett Community College, who have brought us Year 11 and Year 12 drama students for performances and workshops. What a busy term!!
