WW2 Day - Visit from the Home Front Bus
World War 2 Day - Friday 12th November
As part of our World War 2 topic, Year 6 will be having a World War 2 day on friday 12th November. This will be a really exciting day where we will be visited by the Home Front Bus.
The Home Front Bus is a travelling, interactive museum accompanied by real actors who will offer the children a unique, immersive experience. They will have the opportunity to:
Experience an air raid during the Blitz (complete with sights, sounds and smells of a bombed London street.)
Spend some time in an Anderson shelter
Shop on board the bus’ general store, using ration vouchers
Dig for Victory
Cook using rationed ingredients
Handle artefacts from that time
Experience what it was like to be evacuated
We would love the children to dress up as evacuees for the day to enhance the experience.
We are asking parents for a voluntary donation of £13.50 per pupil. If you are entitled to free school meals, this has automatically been discounted for you on Schoolsbuddy.
We really want this worthwhile experience to go ahead however, this does depend on all parents making the £13.50 voluntary contribution. We will review the contributions we have received by Friday 22nd September. If parents haven’t made a contribution, the office will need to contact you before we can make a decision about whether the visit can go ahead. It’s for this reason that we would really appreciate you letting us know if you are unable to make this voluntary contribution.
If you have any questions please contact the school office
