World War 2 Day
World War 2 Day –Tuesday 24th September
As part of our World War 2 topic, Year 6 will be having a World War 2 day on September 24th 2019. This will be a really exciting day where we will be visited by the Home Front Bus.
What? WW2 –Home Front Bus visit
When? Tuesday24th September
Action: £6 to pay on Schoolsbuddy
Lunch: As normal
Further action: Evacuee costume
The Home Front Bus is a travelling, interactive museum accompanied by real actors who will offer the children a unique, immersive experience. They will have the opportunity to:
- Experience an air raid during the Blitz (complete with sights, sounds and smells of a bombed London street.)
- Spend some time in an Anderson shelter
- Shop on board the bus’ general store, using ration vouchers
- Dig for Victory
- Cook using rationed ingredients
- Handle artefacts from that time
- Experience what it was like to be evacuated
We would love the children to dress up as evacuees for the day to enhance the experience.
It would also be great to hear from any families who may have any relatives with memories of WW2 that would be happy to come in and share their experiences with the children. Please let the school office or your child’s teacher know.
We are pleased to be able to subsidise this visit and are asking parents for a voluntary donation of £6.00 per pupil. If you are entitled to free school meals, this has automatically been discounted for you on Schoolsbuddy.
We really want this worthwhile experience to go ahead however, this does depend on all parents making the £6 voluntary contribution. We will review the contributions we have received by Friday 13th September. If parents haven’t made a contribution, the office will need to contact you before we can make a decision about whether the visit can go ahead. It’s for this reason that we would really appreciate you letting us know if you are unable to make this voluntary contribution.
If you have any questions please contact the school office
