Spring 2

This term our topic is 'Around the World'.

This topic has helped us to become world experts! We have just loved poring over maps and learning more about different countries. We know how to use compass directions and a key and we can name and find the seven continents and five oceans.

Our topic this term matched brilliantly with Hilltop's special book week activities. Each year group had a different continent to explore and Year Two's continent was Europe.  We took an imaginary journey through the countries of France, Spain and Russia and we imagined what we would see, hear, smell, taste and feel in each country. We learnt some of the language and listened to the music of each country and we even enjoyed tasting some foods! We used our ideas to write a sense poem.  Our teachers were incredibly impressed with the wonderful vocabulary that we used.

In Art, we learnt how to use watercolour to evoke the different weathers of each country. Then we learnt about some famous landmarks around Europe such as the Eiffel Tower, the Sagrada Familia and St Basil's Cathedral. We drew these carefully onto our watercolor backgrounds to create some spectacular work.

In English, we have been inspired by journeys.  We have written a journey tale based on The Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson and a diary about The Great Explorer by Chris Judge.
