Life Leaders

As part of our Children as Leaders initiative, we have trained a select group of children as peer mentors. Peer mentoring involves pupils regularly supporting each other and passing on their experiences of school life.  Each peer mentor is known as a ‘Life Leader’ and they work with specific children to help them develop both socially and emotionally.

Life Leaders have had extensive training by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. They were put through their paces in a range of activities, both at school and in Tilgate Forest, which built on their existing skills of friendliness, reliability, empathy and good listening.  Additional skills have been developed along the way which include:

  • Communication
  • Negotiation
  • Problem solving
  • Decision making
  • Self-awareness
