Autumn 2

This half term our topic is 'Weather'. Click on the link to our topic letter to see what we have been learning.

Throughout this topic we have been learning all about weather around the world. We have explored the climate regions of polar, desert, tropical and temperate, looking at which countries have each of the different climates and the kinds of weather we would find there. We used this learning to plan a trip to a country of our own choice, considering what we would need to take to prepare for the weather. We have also been exploring weather in the UK by keeping a daily weather diary. In order to present the information we collected in our diaries we created pictograms and bar charts.

In our English lessons we have been writing poems about the weather. Firstly we composed poems about each month of the year using powerful adjectives and conjunctions. The children then developed their use of 3 part sentences and interesting verbs and adverbs when writing a poem about winter weather. We have also explored the writing genre of non-chronological reports, writing about gorillas and the tropical region they live in. Throughout this unit the children learned some new formal openers and technical vocabulary.
